Bunny Games! How To Have Fun With Your Rabbit

Part of the challenge of rabbit ownership is learning to interact in fun ways with your bunny. Many complain that their rabbits do little but sit around and chew hay, or perhaps run away when they are approached. Both these activities can quickly become tiresome after a few minutes of observation, and once owners realize that their bunny isn't going to do much more than eat and look at them, many rabbits are left to sit in their hutches or cages until they eventually die years later. This tragic problem is compounded by the fact that many rabbits are not huge fans of being handled, and may nip when irritated or frightened
Playing with your bunny is an essential part of ownership. Through play you can bond with your rabbit, make it become accustomed to being handled, and you will both enjoy your relationship much more. Here are a few games you can try out with your rabbit.
Find the food game. Hide some of your rabbits favorite treats about your person. Let the bunny have some idea that there is food to be had, and let bunny find it. This can be a good way to build trust between you and your rabbit, and is a great way to start with timid or handling shy rabbits.
Obstacle/Jump Game. Make up some rabbit sized obstacles, and use the rabbits favorite treat to lure it over jumps, through tunnels, and around objects.
Hide and Seek. This old children's game can be easily tailored to playing with rabbits, but will require you to get down to their level. Once on the floor, hide behind something, whether it be a couch or a bed, or chair. Peek out a little and let your bunny see you doing it, then hide again. Chances are that the bunny will hop over to investigate what strange thing you are doing. You can run away, or jump out a little at the bunny (not in a loud, threatening, screaming fashion, more like a playful hop), depending on what the bunny does, it might be your turn to run away and hide again or maybe you can seek your bunny.
Teaching tricks. Though this isn't technically a game, you can spend some time teaching your rabbit tricks. Most rabbits learn to recognize their name, and to come to it if they associate it with positive things. You can also try teaching your rabbit to beg by holding the food above its head and making it stand for it. Variations such as getting the rabbit to spin to get the food are also possible.
Work with your bunny's own temperament and natural inclinations. Some rabbits are naturally more sociable, others are more retiring. Some rabbits will take to the games listed above like the proverbial duck to water, and others may just look at you as if you're insane. Spending time with your bunny is the important thing however, you will probably find that the more time you spend with them, the more games naturally evolve.

My bunny loves this old comforter I have, he loves to slide around on it and smooth our the wrinkles It's so funny and cute every time I let him out he goes and looks for his blanket.

haha lol this doesn't really work with my rabbits, they just sit there. i put food near them and they just hide from it. haha. its okay tho i jus put them in the kitchen and when i leave they start playing :) x
lol, that's the fun thing about bunnies, no two are the same. You also have two rabbits which makes for quite a different dynamic I think, they have each other to play with, so the clumsy human is uneccesary ;)
do they really stand up and beg for food? because i tried it with my rabbit and he just sat there. i know he wasn't full because he hadn't eaten anything huge and was nibbling on grass a few moments prior.
didnt work for me but what i do is i kind of chase the bunny then stop then let it chase after me then give her a carrot or somthing after..do you know any good treats for a rabbit ?
My bunny does almost everything for food. I sometimes buy him little bunny treats (but only the healthy ones, the bunny treats that have yogurth or even sugar in them are so bad for the little guys) and he just goes crazy as soon as he hears me shaking the little box I keep them in. He stands up when I hold them high and sometimes he overestimates his capability of standing up and falls sideways (it doesn't hurt him though). He even hops on my lap in order to get some treats.

My bunny, Felix, likes to dance around my feet (especially in the morning). When he's done his "lap", he'll ask me to walk around him in small steps by waiting my movement. if I dont move, he'll bite my toes! So i just play the "bunny dance" with him...after a few 'lap", he'll do binky and run around my feet again...what a pity I'm too heavy to do that awesome binky.. ;P

I'd love to hear more bunny games. The hide and seek works a little...I had no idea bunny's were so playful! I just got Bhopal my bunny four days ago - he is adorable. I want to cuddle with him, but he's not so hot on that - he's getting more and more touchable with each day of playing the food game and being very, very patient and letting him be.

90% of a rabbits diet should be hay and 10% should be pellets. i found that out on a website. If your bunnies diet is the other way around, its okay to change its diet.
Its usually not good to change its diet,but if that happens then its okay. You can also give it treats like veggies once in a while. If you train your rabbit you can go to the local pets store and they probably have things to give them for treats. For our rabbit, we got it a carrot mixed w/ alfalfa at the store. They love it as a treat. If you find that you can use it 4 when you train them. You can train them w/ things like potty training, doing tricks, and if you let them out of there cage to excersize u can teach them what rooms their allowed in. If they try 2 go in another room, block it.

Here's a fun recommendation from a bunny owner: newspaper. Bunnies love newspaper. I find getting a cardboard box, flipping it upside down, unfolding one end so your bunny can get in it, then stuffing it full of newspaper = bunny heaven. They will shred that stuff all day long, and clean-up is pretty easy.

My Thumper just loved to play with a toilet roll. Plenty of people say about bunnies loving to chew the cardboard inner, but the paper itself can be just as much fun. What used to do was unroll some toilet paper (about 5 squares) and just kinda wave it round above her head, letting it brush across her face. She would stand up and follow it around in little circles, sometimes catching the end and tugging it. If I moved it too far away she just walked off and forgot about it, but by keeping it above her head and brushing her face with it, she got a good 5 mins fun out of it at a time.
I've tried the hide and seek with Tash, he loves it. I crouch behind my bed and peek out at him, then hide again. He soon comes bounding over, and as soon as he appears round the bed, I sort of pounce at him (mostly just with my arms, and being sure to land a couple of feet away from him). He immediately shoots off and binkies round the wardrobe. He's so cute.
My boyfriend will lay on his front on the floor, and wait for Tash to jump onto his back. As soon as he does, my bf will roll on one side so that Tash tumbles off. Silly Tash will promptly turn, headbutt him, and jump straight back up onto him again. This can go on for several minutes, and usually ends with Tash running off flicking his feet, then turning back and licking so we know he's not really peed off.

My Bunny Belle does not like to be picked up, and whenever I try to she runs away so I try not to pick her up much but I have to take her take her outside everyday and I cant do that without picking her up. What should I do?? I dont want her to hate me but I know she needs to get time outside.

You should try making a little tunnel like thing and then let the bunny run through it till it gets outside. Idk, just an idea..

Great ideas for bunny play, but I already do things like that with my bunny... She just seems... bored all the time. She still occasionally binkies for me... but no where near as much as she did when I first got her. I almost think she would enjoy having a playmate. But I'm not sure.

I just got my baby bunny about 3 weeks ago she is adorible she already knows her name and when I let her out to hop around on the floor she sitts on my dog it so funny she loves dogs its funny though becuase my dog is so calm about it. When I got her she was a little frisky so I had to put her up in her cage in my room I turned on my disco ball n she started hopping around in circles and when ever I take her outside on her leash she likes to play the car game (Witch is hop out of her leash find the nearst car thats parked and hide under it and when I finaly go under there to get her shes out from under the car!)

I bought a bunny about a month about, she is 3 months old. I made a little necklace out of wood blocks and I wave it around in front of her while she trys chasing it, circling around it, standing up to reach it, all sorts of cute little things! Its adorable. After doing this, she runs around me doing binkies.
We also found her playing in this giant pile of bubble wrap which we had for moving. She found it in our closet and she jumps on it, digs through it, and gets caught in it. Its adorable when shes triyng to find her way out of it. I think she really likes it when the bubbles pop under her feet.
Another thing she enjoys is going into the center of a bed sheet. We then pick the bedsheet up, with her still on it, and gently swing it from side to side. She gets really excited!
my rabbit molly loves playing football and plastic goals with no net in! she pulls it all apart then sits down by her treats and looks like she wants another treat but she only gets one a day! she also likes playing hide and seek with me its really hard to find her because she is black! one more thing she likes to do is scrape out the wood shavings and hay when I've cleaned her out!
My bunny was a bit older when we got her, (about 1yr and a half) and I cant get her to play! lol I think she just likes to relax on the couch lol. I've tried EVERYTHING with her, stuffed things into cardboard tubes, made little tunnels, places for her to hide, lol nothing seems to get her excited, well except when I rattle her lead, then she knows its time for a walk, although, she chews it sometimes ha ha

training my rabbit is a fun thing to do now my rabbit is smart horay!!!
Its really fun to train you rabbit? i am teaching mine to walk on to legs it really easy to do this take it favorit food hold it above its head then say up or beg but if your bunnyy all ready knows beg or up dont give it the treat once your bunnie has learned beg or up tell you bunnie to beg or go up once its in that form move the treat slowly away from your bunnie keep it a little above head level and one it takes a few tiny steps give it the treat and av=fter a while your bunny will be able to walk about a foot like this or more. im also teaching my bunnie to be littler trained there is a secret to doing this if you put bedding in the its cage take all the bedding out they will not need it inless its winter ( in a good time to start the tick in the spring if your bunny is an outside bunny but if not you cant stare when ever you would like) after you have taken the bedding out fill the litter box and put in the cage. your rabbit will finally get the hang of this.
I'm really interested in trying these games out!! My rabbit loves to hop around, and I'm pretty sure she and I have a good bond already (she doesn't mind me picking her up, and she always runs over whenever I go to her cage to pet her). All I have to do is make sure I have a rabbit-proof room in the house so she can run around without any worries!

Smokey is basically CRAZY!we have this paddock next door to us and we let smokey and our other rabbits out coco and ebony, so we sit on the grass and watch them run around it's really cute!but they always do this like big high jumps that are dangerous and we dont know what to do please someone help!?plus we cant not take them out 4 grass time becuase thats part of there diet!

i love smokey if your worried to chande your bunnys diet why dont you go and CUT NOT pull grass as pulling can pull up roots witch is not good for bunnys.

My rabbit's favorite toy is a balloon (about the same size as him) that he can push around with his nose. He spends hours doing so everyday. Just make sure to always supervise when the bunny plays with it so if it pop he doesn't eat the rubber.

my bunny, zoey, really doesn't like to do anything with me. she just plays by herself when i let her out of her cage. i used to hold her alot when she was little so i could have possibly scarred her mentally, but anyway, if anyone knows how to bond with an uninterested bunny i would really like to know how. also, i tried to bribe her with treats to come near me, but she only eats food in her cage. otherwise she stares at me.

Humphrey, my rabbit is only 12 weeks old but I only got him a week agao. I let him out ever day for a good hour and then rub/handle him for another hour as I was instructed, He doesn't really play game so how can I introduce the games without him running of????? And how do i teach him is own name?????

My indoor rabbit bogie is turning 9 yrs/old next month. He has only gotten better with age. His favorite treats are green beans, graham crackers, and vitakraft carrot slims. His favorite toy is his baby blanket. He loves for me to drape it over him and let him tunnel around. They make such great pets and they usually get along great with dogs and cats. Just remember the more time you spend with your little friend, the more love they will give back. They are very smart and easy to litter box train. Just keep them away from woodwork and electric wires!
I just got my bunny Poko yesterday. He doesn't eat much but he loves to run and snuggle up to you. He's black with big blue eyes and loves to explore. He does this thing where he'll run behind you and lick your back!! I'll try to play some of those games with him!
I have the cutest bunny in the world called honney he has honney patches all over him and big brown eyes soooo cute :) sadly he's really likes to eat paper and won't play with me:(
My rabbits called Sooty and he's 3 next april! He like to jump around in his run and play with his jingle ball. However i bought him a new hutch a month ago and all he seems to do is chew the wood and try to bite the bars! He had a wooden hutch last and we had no problems! I feed him every day too! Do you have any tips on why he may be doing it?? Thankyouuu :)
my bunny is the best bunny in the whole wide world. He gives me kisses all the time and loves to have his head rubbed. his favorite treat is romaine lettuce. i9t os even cute to watch him eat his ffod because he always tips over his bowl and rumages through the food. so cute. he is also a little nipper. it hurts sometimes but it is out of love. please everyone...alwways be kind and loving to your raBBIT.

I think ya'll should put how to train your bunny. It is kind of weird to put that you can train your bunny but not say how. Other wise i'ts an ok website.
